– playing his golden Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute drums and his shiny Sabian HHX cymbals live on stage
Lars Bertelsen is the drummer in the BOWIE tribute lineup. He started playing the drums in primary school at the age of seven taught by his english and music teacher legendary Tom McEwan. Lars has been active as a drummer ever since, amounting to almost 40 years of playing. In highschool he borrowed his brothers vintage Ludwig jazz kit and started his first band. At the age of 18 he bought his own first kit, a brand new Gretsch US Custom. In his early twenties Lars switched to Yamaha Recording Custom, and today he plays a gold sparkle Yamaha Birch Custom Absolute and Sabian HHX cymbals. He still keeps the Recording Custom for special occasions.
Lars came across David Bowie at the age of 13 years of age when visiting his cousin listening to “Ziggy Stardust and the spiders from Mars” – and Lars never stopped listening!
Besides playing the drums, Lars loves watching Blue Velvet by David Lynch and drinking Scotch single malt whiskey while eating chocolate.
